Approving your abatement project

Steps to becoming an abatement provider

The process for approving an abatement project under Greenhouse Friendly™ is:

Step 1: Prepare and submit an Eligibility Statement for your proposed abatement project and discuss this with the Australian Greenhouse Office.
Step 2: Prepare an Emission/Abatement Study for your project.
Step 3: Develop a Project Monitoring Plan to measure the ongoing greenhouse gas abatement generated from your project.
Step 4: Have your Eligibility Statement, Emission/Abatement Study and Project Monitoring Plan independently verified.
Step 5: Submit your application to the Australian Greenhouse Office - this will include:
  • the Eligibility Statement
  • Emission/Abatement Study
  • Project Monitoring Plan
  • Independent Verification Report for your project.
Step 6: The Greenhouse Friendly™ Administrator reviews documentation and makes a recommendation to the Australian Greenhouse Office.
Step 7: The Australian Greenhouse Office makes a decision on your application. If you are successful, you will enter into a Deed of Approval which enables you to start generating and selling Greenhouse Friendly™ approved abatement.
Step 8: Maintain Greenhouse Friendly™ approval - this includes updating your Emission/Abatement Study and Project Monitoring Plan (as required) and submitting an annual report to the Australian Greenhouse Office.
Step 9: Re-approval after five years. If your project continues to meet the Greenhouse Friendly™ eligibility requirements, you may enter into a new Deed of Approval or extend your existing one.
