Emissions at a Glance
- Australia’s net emissions across all sectors totalled 576.0 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (Mt CO2-e) in 2006.
- The largest single source of direct emissions is the electricity, gas and water economic sector, accounting for 35.5 per cent
of Australia’s emissions.
- Australia’s primary industries (agriculture, forestry and fi shing and mining) accounted for 32.7 per cent of direct emissions.

The National Inventory by Economic Sector provides information on national emissions disaggregated by Australia-New
Zealand Standard Industry Classifi cations (ANZSIC). It complements the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory (DCC 2008a),
which provides estimates of emissions classifi ed according to process-based emission categories (see Notes for details).
