State & Territory Greenhouse Gas Inventories 2005
Australian Greenhouse Office, Department of the Environment and Water Resources, March 2007
The State and Territory Greenhouse Gas Inventories are produced as part of Australia's National Greenhouse Accounts.
The emissions estimates in the State and Territory inventories are consistent with those in the 2005 national inventory and, like the national inventory, have been prepared in accordance with the Revised 1996 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories and the principles of the IPCC 2000 Good Practice Guidance and Uncertainty Management in National Greenhouse Gas Inventories.
The State and Territory inventories have been prepared in consultation with the States and Territories, under the guidance of the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory Committee of representatives of the Australian, State and Territory Governments.
State and Territory emissions data are available from AGEIS - Australian Greenhouse Emissions Information System

STATE AND TERRITORY GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS – AN OVERVIEW
This document provides an overview of the latest available estimates of greenhouse gas emissions for Australia’s States and Territories. Australia’s total greenhouse gas emissions in 2005 amounted to 559.1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (Mt CO2-e) under the accounting provisions applying to Australia’s 108% emissions target. The State and Territory breakdown was:
- New South Wales: 158.2 Mt
- Queensland: 157.0 Mt
- Victoria: 121.9 Mt
- Western Australia: 66.6 Mt
- South Australia: 28.1 Mt
- Northern Territory: 13.5 Mt
- Tasmania: 11.0 Mt
- ACT: 1.1 Mt.
The summary of State and Territory inventories presented in this document reports estimates of greenhouse gas emissions for each State and Territory for the period 1990 to 2005.
