GREENHOUSE AND ENERGY DATA OFFICER APPOINTED

Secretary of the Department of Climate Change, Dr Martin Parkinson, today announced the appointment of Mr David Rossiter as the new Greenhouse and Energy Data Officer.

The Greenhouse and Energy Data Officer is a new position established under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007 which came into effect today.

The Greenhouse and Energy Data Officer will be responsible for administering the new legislation, maintaining a National Greenhouse and Energy Register of corporations that are required to report under the Act, as well as monitoring compliance.

"The Act stipulates that the Greenhouse and Energy Data Officer reports to me as Secretary of the Department of Climate Change," Dr Parkinson said.

"Mr David Rossiter is highly-qualified to take on this important new position and has extensive experience.

"This includes more than seven years experience as the Renewable Energy Regulator administering the Australian Government's Mandatory Renewable Energy Target scheme.

"Mr Amarjot Singh who has six years experience working within the Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator, will act in the position as the Renewable Energy Regulator until a new permanent regulator is appointed."

Corporations meeting thresholds under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007 will be required to apply to the Greenhouse and Energy Data Officer for registration by 31 August 2009, and report by 31 October 2009, for the 2008-09 financial year.
