Abstract

The Australian Greenhouse Office commissioned the University of Western Australia to undertake a review of unpublished ('grey') literature related to biomass of vegetation types in Western Australia, South Australia and New South Wales. The emphasis was on lower productivity regions, particularly the woodland and rangeland ecosystems of New South Wales and Western Australia. This report identifies sources and describes data that are currently or potentially available. It summarises allometric relationships and statistical analyses and interpretations of those relationships for a range of vegetation types. The largest unpublished data set exists for rangelands and woodlands, especially those of Western Australia, and for vegetation of South Australia. The smallest database is for woodlands in New South Wales, particularly Callitris-eucalypt formations, and Acacia shrublands.
