This report describes a workshop convened to solicit input from Australia's leading experts on the development of an operational national strategy for estimating and monitoring vegetation cover density - with particular consideration of the lower levels of canopy cover below the '20% forest cover' threshold.
The experts provided a range of experiences and familiarity with a range of remote sensing instruments. In addition to remote sensing skills, other experts with experience in technical and policy applications were also represented.
The workshop considered the technical response to meeting the dual policy needs of land cover change monitoring for greenhouse accounting purposes and canopy cover change for vegetation monitoring.
