Solar panels
The Solar Homes and Communities Plan provides cash rebates for householders, schools and owners of community use buildings to install grid-connected or stand-alone photovoltaic systems.
Solar hot water rebates
The Australian Government provides rebates of $1,000 to install solar and heat pump hot water systems in existing eligible homes.
Low Emission Plan for Renters
The landlord insulation rebate will provide a rebate of 30 per cent of the cost of installing insulation, up to a maximum rebate of $500 per property, in up to 300,000 existing rental homes.

National Rainwater and Greywater Initiative
The National Rainwater and Greywater Initiative provides rebates of up to $500 for households to install rainwater tanks or greywater systems.
Renewable energy in remote areas
The Renewable Remote Power Generation Program provides financial support to increase the use of renewable generation in remote parts of Australia that presently rely on fossil fuel for electricity supply.
Green Loans
- Provides $300.0 million over five years for low interest green loans of up to $10,000 to assist families to install solar, water, and energy efficient products.
- Provides participating households with a Green Renovation Pack and a sustainability assessment identifying potential energy and water efficient actions, complete with estimated savings to electricity and water bills and environmental benefits.
- Increases awareness of the benefits of energy efficient technologies in Australian households.
- Delivers cost-effective greenhouse gas emissions reductions in up to 200,000 existing households.
- Strengthens the Australian community’s contribution to energy effi ciency and increases green inspired investment in households, which will benefi t the small business sector.
- The loans are expected to be available in early 2009.
